Lose 5,000 pounds with Utah IPL

Low Carbon Diet, By DAVID GERSHON

Utah IPL is a growing community of faithful people from many religious traditions who want to work together to mitigate climate chaos. We focus on what we share in common: an understanding that global climate change is threatening our world and a commitment to do something about it.

Utah Interfaith Power & Light (Utah IPL) can help communities of faith and houses of worship lower their energy consumption three ways.

  • Utah IPL offers a free energy audit to any house of worship so that they will know what needs to be fixed in order to be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer without spending more money on their energy bill.
  • Utah IPL has small matching grants available to help cover some of the costs to make energy efficient upgrades. Up to $1,000 can be reimbursed to those houses of worship that install upgrades before the end of 2012.
  • Utah IPL offers small group workshops to any faith community that wants to individually examine their personal carbon footprint and lower their CO2 output. The “Energy Diet workshop and accompanying workbook, Low Carbon Diet, will help you figure out ways to loose 5,000 lbs, or more, of CO2 every year.

PLEASE connect with the staff of Utah IPL if you are interested in any or all of the three options listed above: Susan Soleil (susan@utahipl.org) for an energy audit and the matching grant for energy upgrades and Lauryn De Grado (energysmart@utahipl.org) for the Energy Diet workshops.
